Steps to Get Started
We’re excited you’re considering joining our Pack. If you haven’t already, take a look at our calendar and check out other parts of our site to learn more about our Pack.
What are the steps to officially join Pack 100?
1. A completed Youth application
Start by submitting your application to join our pack online here.
2. Youth member’s annual fee
The total annual fee for our pack is $185 for each Cub Scout
- $85 of the fee is paid when you join online and goes to the Scouting America national and council levels, including Scout’s insurance.
- Pack 100 does not receive any of this money.
- Note: $15 subscription to ‘Scout Life’ magazine is optional.
- $100 is payable separately to the Pack and helps to cover costs of all our events throughout the year such as Fall and Spring camping trips, Pinewood Derby, council events like Klondike and Day Camp, advancement awards, our volunteer leaders’ registrations.
- Other packs may charge for each of these incrementally but we fold these into one low fee.
- One exception: For those who will become Webelos and AOLs, see special note on ‘Webelos Woods’ Summer camping, in fundraising section below.
Scholarships are available for both national and pack dues. If annual fee is an issue for your family, please contact any of the Leaders. We want any kid who is interested to be able to join in and enjoy the program.
3. Uniform
Uniforms are an essential component of Cub Scouting. Cub Scouts feel part of a group and have a place to display and show off recognitions and awards when they wear their uniforms.
The uniform for Cub Scouts in Pack 100 consists of:
- Blue uniform shirt ~ $33 plus patches
- These patches should be in place: Council, Pack number, World Scouting insignia, and rank. Note Pack 100 provides official ‘Pack 100 since 1914’ patches.
- Webelos have the option of the tan uniform shirt with blue shoulder tabs and this is the uniform for AOL level. Same patches.
- Lions (Kindergarten) wear a Lion t-shirt in place of the blue uniform shirt. ~$15
- Scout belt ~ $15
- Scouts will wear Adventure loops they earn on their Scout Belt.
- Neckerchief and the slide for their rank.
- The Pack provides neckerchiefs and slides as Scouts rank up.
- Cub Scout Webelos (Grade 4-5) Rank Colors ~ $8
- Webelos will wear Adventure pins they earn on their Rank Colors
Optional parts of the uniform:
- BSA Scout Uniform pants. Dark pants or jeans in good shape are fine.
- BSA Socks
- BSA Hats
Where to Buy :
- The Mountain West Council Scout Shop – We highly recommend visiting the Scout Shop in person, they will make sure you have everything you need and even can do alterations and hemming that will extend the life of your uniform.
- ScoutShop.Org
- A used shirt in good shape is fine!
4. Handbook
Cubs need the handbook for their rank. Handbooks serve as their guide to Cub Scouting as they work through the requirements to reach the next rank.
Den Leaders often encourage cubs to read along with their lessons and check off Adventure Requirements as they are completed.
Handbook~ $25.00, optional cover ~$13, handbooks are also purchased at either ScoutShop above
Part 2: Parent steps
5. Safeguarding Youth Training (SYT) for at least one parent or guardian. Go to My.Scouting.org and create an account. You’ll receive an email notification with your account information, including a member ID/reference number. You do not have to be a registered member of Scouting America to take Safeguarding Youth training.
6. Download the My Scouting app / become familar with Scoutbook “Plus”
The official app and website are where you can view and RSVP for upcoming events. Also you will be able to monitor your Scout’s advancements and even submit completions for adventures you complete at home, outside of the Den/Pack activities (typically these will be updated by your Den leader or the Advancement chair).
7. Fundraising
We try to keep the annual fee as low as possible so every family can participate. But the low annual fee does not fully cover the costs of running the program. Pack 100 usually has one major fundraiser in the fall, selling Scout Popcorn.
Some families will just pay extra, which is ok, but we ask parents to encourage their Cubs to participate in the fundraisers to help the Pack with a good spirit, and to put at least some effort into this joint fundraising event. There are no mandatory dollar amounts or required number of time slots, but kids earn recognition for participating and a great sense of accomplishment for helping their Pack.
Note participation in ‘Webelos Woods’ Summer camp is limited to Scouts who will be Webelos or AOLs the following fall (rising 4th and 5th graders) is a substanital cost and we do require Scouts to participate in selling popcorn in order to have this fee covered. If a Scout wants to attend but didn’t participate in popcorn, they will be required to cover the camp fee.
